Treat Gingivitis with Salt

Salt is one of the easiest and cheapest home remedy for gingivitis. The antibacterial properties of these white crystals are believed to kill the plaque forming bacteria that are responsible for causing gum diseases. There are many ways to use salt for maintaining oral hygiene as well as treating gingivitis.

For remedy 1

You will need

  • Salt 1/2 teaspoon
  • Coconut/sesame/mustard oil 1 teaspoon

Combine 1/2 teaspoon salt with a teaspoon of coconut oil, sesame oil or mustard oil and mix well. Dip your tooth brush in the solution and brush with it for 1-2 minutes. Rinse off the mouth with water.

For remedy 2

You will Need

  • Salt 1 teaspoon
  • Luke warm water 1 glass

Add a teaspoon of salt in a glass of luke warm water and stir well. Use this solution as a mouth rinse. Doing this once a day is good enough.

Treat Gingivitis with Hydrogen peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is the best home remedy to subside tooth pain and discomfort caused from an infection in the gum such as gingivitis. Hydrogen per oxide has antibacterial and antiseptic properties which kill the bacteria and keep the mouth clean and disinfected. Some of the precautions you need to follow to use hydrogen peroxide safely include:

Use peroxide solution only for swishing and never swallow it, as it can burn your esophagus and cause stomach cramps.

If hydrogen peroxide is used too often it could burn tender gums. Do not use for more than three days in a row and only once a day if you have a toothache. Otherwise, hydrogen peroxide solution should ideally be used once in a month.

Always mix the peroxide with water to dilute it otherwise it will cause harm to the teeth and gums.

You will need

  • Hydrogen peroxide 3 percent 1/4 cup
  • Water 1/4 cup

Floss first to remove any particles from teeth. Then swish a mouthful of a 3 percent solution of hydrogen peroxide mixed with some water in your mouth for a few seconds. Let it stay in your mouth for about a minute, then spit it out and rinse thoroughly with water.

Treat Gingivitis with Burdock root

Burdock (Arctium lappa) a plant which grows wild in North America and Europe is of various medicinal properties. The leaves, root and seeds of the plant contain curative properties and used for a number of ailments including dental problems. Burdock root is a natural antimicrobial agent which also contains anti-inflammatory properties which help heal gum pain.

You will need

  • Burdock root 1 teaspoon
  • Water 1 cup

Boil a teaspoon of burdock root in a cup of water for few minutes. Let it steep for 5 minutes. Cool it down. Use it as a mouth rinse after regular brushing.

Treat Gingivitis with Turmeric

Turmeric is an excellent remedy to get rid of gum diseases including gingivitis. This yellow spice has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, which help to reduce swelling and cure infections. Make it a habit to use turmeric once daily for brushing your teeth for healthy gums and clean teeth.

  • Coconut/sesame oil 1 tablespoon

Any vegetable oil can be used for the purpose but coconut oil or sesame oil is considered an ideal options. Take a tablespoon of coconut or sesame oil and swish it in mouth by moving your jaws up and down to induce saliva production. Keep swishing the oil for 15-20 minutes.  Spit it out. Rinse well with water.

Sodium bicarbonate or commonly known as Baking soda is used as a teeth whitener but this white powder can do a lot more than that. Apply some tooth paste on brush and dip it in baking soda. Brush as regular with it for 2 minutes. Rinse off mouth with water.

For remedy 3

You will Need

  • Baking soda 1 teaspoon
  • Strawberry 1 ripe

Combine a teaspoon of baking soda in strawberry paste (mash 1 ripe strawberry) and mix well to form a paste. Now add this paste on a tooth brush and brush as usual for 2 minutes. Rinse off mouth with water.
