Suck Honey

If you don’t like to have sugar then honey is the perfect sweet remedy for you to stop hiccups. Sucking any hard candy or a Popsicle can also do the trick in preventing hiccupping.

You will need

  • A spoon of honey

Put a spoon of honey in your mouth. Wait for few seconds for the honey to melt in your mouth. Slowly swallow and your hiccups will be gone.

Another option is to dissolve a teaspoon of honey in a glass of water. Drink it with plugged ears or pinched nose.

Try chewing gum

If you have some chewing gums handy you can try to get rid of hiccups. Chewing stimulates the vagus nerve and ease the diaphragm spasms which stops hiccupping.

  • A chewing gum

Chew a gum for 2-3 minutes to prevent hiccupping.

Apple cider vinegar

Though any vinegar would work but apple cider vinegar has tons of additional benefits. So it would be great to try cider remedy for hiccups.

You will need

  • Apple cider vinegar 1 teaspoon
  • Water 1 glass

Dissolve a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water. Drink this liquid slowly.

For fast relief for hiccupping, drink half a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar or lemon juice.

Dab some Peanut butter

Peanut butter is yet another buttery way to get free of irritating hiccups, and if you are peanaholic, a must to try. Assuming that the slushy mushy texture of peanut butter interrupts with the breathing pattern it helps get rid of hiccups.

You will need

  • A teaspoon of peanut butter

Put a spoon of peanut butter in your mouth. Wait for few seconds for it to dissolve. Drink a glass of cold water afterwards.

Another way is to take out some peanut butter in your finger and lick it.

Breath with ears closed

Breathing with closed ears also helps clear hiccups. This technique works by stimulating the vagus nerve to start working normally, which the nerve didn’t either due to damage or irritation.

Breathing into a paper bag is also considered a great way to belch troublesome hiccups away. Breathing in a closed intact place produces much carbon dioxide, the diaphragm as a result contracts to produce more oxygen which stops hiccup.

  • A brown paper bag

Put a paper bag over your head and breathe slowly and deeply for few seconds. Stop immediately if you feel dizzy.

Another option is to firmly hold the opening of the paper bag over the nose and the mouth part of the face. Breathe slowly and deeply in this way for few seconds. . Stop immediately if you feel dizzy.

Tickle the roof of mouth

Massaging the roof of the mouth is another time-tested technique to zap hiccups. It works by stimulating the vagus nerve which causes a distraction to the system and stop spasms.

You will need

  • A clean cotton swab

Open your mouth and tickle the roof of your mouth with a cotton swab for few seconds.

Chew some ginger

Chewing ginger also works well by distracting the system and help get rid of hiccups.

You will need

  • A small piece of ginger

Chew a small piece of ginger for few seconds, then swallow it. Drink a glass of water afterwards.

Ask someone to tickle you

Laughing as a response to tickling is thought to help stop hiccups by resetting the diaphragm to breathe as normal.
