Essential oil Compress for migraines

Essential oil compress is an excellent and safe way to ease the pain of a migraine and even could be used for children. A cold, as well as warm compress if used at the same time, is proved to be very effective. Cold compress relieves migraine pain with the vasoconstriction whereas warm compress helps in dilation of the blood vessels, together which relieve the pain.

You will need

  • 3 drops of Lavender essential oil
  • 3 drops of peppermint essential oil
  • 1 tablespoon Coconut oil
  • A bowl of cold water
  • Cotton towel

Dilute the essential oils in coconut oil, as they don’t mix with water; therefore it is important to dilute them before adding to water. Now put it in a bowl of cold water. Soak a cotton towel in the water and wring out any excess. Apply this across your forehead and down onto the temple area.

  • 5 drops of marjoram essential oil
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
  • A bowl of Warm water
  • Cotton towel

At the same time place a warm compress where Marjoram has been placing in the water bowl. Place this on the back of your neck. The Marjoram and the heat help the blood vessels to dilate. Since it is believed that migraines are caused from the stricture of blood vessels, dilating them really help to reduce pain.

Essential oil Roll-ons for migraines

A migraine roll-on products are available at stores but you can also make it at home to make sure that the product contains 100 percent pure essential oils.

You will need

  • An empty roll-on bottle
  • 75 percent sweet almond/coconut/jojoba or magnesium oil
  • 5-7 drops of lavender essential oil
  • 5-7 drops of peppermint essential oil

Dilute the essential oils in 75 percent of any of the carrier oil of your choice. I use magnesium oil since it helps in fast absorption of the essential oils, and sometimes the deficiency of this vital mineral is the cause of the migraines.so you can get magnesium in this form.

Now pour this mixture into an empty roll-on bottle. Keep the bottle tightly closed to avoid losing the potent scents of the oils. During an episode of a migraine, apply it on the back of your neck, shoulders, and wrists. Keep the bottle in a cool place and away from direct sunlight.

Essential oil Bath for migraines

Essential oil baths are one of the best headache pain relievers. Warm water relaxes the constricted tissues, the aromas and scents soothe the mind and the pain relieving properties of the essential oils relieve the body of all the pain.

You will need

  • 2 drops of chamomile
  • 2 drops of lavender
  • 2 drops of marjoram
  • 1 drop of clary sage
  • 1 tablespoon of sweet almond/coconut/jojoba oil

If you have sensitive skin, or you are a newbie, dilute the essential oils in a carrier oil before mixing it in bath water to avoid any skin irritation. Disperse the essential oils in a bath tub filled with warm water. Sit in the bath tub for 15-20 minutes.

For migraine sufferers, essential oil pillow is a life saver. All you have to do is to take a quick nap or some good night sleep on the pillow and it will send your headaches to sleep, quiet interesting!

You will need

  • 5-7 drops of Lavender essential oil
  • 5-7 drops of Clary sage essential oil
  • 2 cups of Rice
  • Pillow case
  • Plastic bag

Put rice in a plastic bag and pour the essential oils. Seal the bag and shake well to evenly coat the rice. Now put this plastic bag in your pillow case. Your anti-headache pillow is set to go.

Note: Essential oils are extremely potent, most of them cannot be applied directly to the skin unless diluted. Always dilute essential oils with a carrier oil before using them on skin. Store the oils in air tight container and in a cool place. Pregnant women should also stay away without professional consultation since many oils contain a chemical thujone that has been shown to have an abortive action.

Avoid eating too salty foods as it causes dehydration and a migraine as result.

Avoid or limit consumption of junk food.
